I think there are so many people using with a . Why is it still that you can‘t change scroll direction for GTK apps using the touchpad and the Synaptics driver?

Ubuntu Linux

@letterus You can in gnome-control-center, though?

Ubuntu Linux

@js I can in Xfce settings as well. But it won‘t show effect on gtk apps as long as synaptics driver is installed… don‘t know why. That bug exists since 2014: bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sou

Ubuntu Linux

@letterus Does Synaptics maybe not expose it as an axis but as buttons? In that case you could swap buttons via xmodmap. I think it was something like "pointer = 1 2 3 5 4"

Ubuntu Linux

@js seems synaptics has a different setting for scroll direction xfce does not know about. Probably should try patching. 😉

Ubuntu Linux

@js Hm, seems the code indead is about button mapping: gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-set
If I detect what gets mapped wrong I may be able to fix it…

Ubuntu Linux

@js Your suspicion was right - but it's the other way around. Xfce settings sets the NaturalScrolling property of libinput for that driver but otherwise only tries to swap buttons. But Synaptics needs to have the axis values swapped (negative values) to work correctly. If you do otherwise or combine both ways you get weird behaviour.

Ubuntu Linux

@js Now this would be easier to fix if the authors of setting would have used a MVC-like pattern. Now one needs to patch that at least at the UI (dialog) and the backend (settings). (gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-set)
